A Closer Look at Windows Phone 8 Lineup

There’s such a point of view that Nokia isn’t the only friend of Windows Phone 8. The Verge claims to have obtained interesting information on the subject from some reliable sources. The Taiwan-based company is about to launch three lines of smartphones supporting Microsoft’s new mobile operating system. Though such lines as Accord, Rio and Zenith are somewhat similar to cheap vehicles dressed up with quite sexy names, but they feature precious bonuses under the hood.

The Verge’s source states that Zenith is expected to be the high-end line, featuring a Super LCD 4.7-inch display, NFC support, quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel HSPA+ camera capable of taking 1080p at 42Mbps. As for the midrange Accord cell phones, they’ve got a tiny 4.3-inch screen and boast dual-core chips. The lowest rung exhibits the Rio line having a 4-inch WVGA display, a 5 megapixel camera, 14.4 Mbps HSPA, 720p capture and a Snapdragon S4 chip.

Both the Rio and Accord are likely to become available to customers in October, while Zenith will probably come out later by the final quarter of this year. Certainly this report seems to be uncertain and even suspicious, so it makes sense to delay working out a purchasing plan for this stuff until things become clear. On the other hand, this information sounds quite believable, though customers should keep in mind that it’s a sort of second-hand, and therefore due to a number of reasons everything may change or even get canceled. Anyway it wouldn’t be surprising to see both Zenith and Accord in anybody’s holiday wish list.

It’s a shame they don’t have a phone that supports the 768 resolution.

I expect todays single core WP devices will be next years free/ pay-as-you go options. One thing though, we’re still looking at Qualcomm SoCs, I wonder how long till we see devices with TI and Samsungs own SoCs showing up? Not to mention nVidia etc? At least looks to be pretty competitive. If HTC is going to have 3 new models I expect at least 3 from Nokia as well, a new 7×0, 8×0 and 9×0 model. Samsung will probably have 2 devices though, and they’ll probably be Galaxy clones, :-p

I have the first gen Samsung Focus and it has served me well (including a 32GB sd card ) but I am hoping that HTC or Nokia do something unique for WP as Samsung’s recent hardware designs are lazy and boring.

The only company that will have anything unique to WP8 will be Nokia. These htc’s all sound like clones of their current lineup and samsung has already said they will clone the gsIII. If you want original designs Nokia is the way to go.

Honda Accord is not a bad car, BTW.

I have one, it’s a nice generic car. Doesn’t breakdown, all right acceleration, not that great top speed (but then again I don’t find the need to go over 120mph), all around good gas mileage. Not great, but for its price range the Honda Accord is a good car.

The phone…well we’ll see, honestly I think windows phone will go the way of zune. Different, but ultimately dying out.

Not that they had much of a choice, it was part of the deal they did with Microsoft over Android patent protection cartel,.

HTC have to be REALLY careful, the last time they took their eye off the ball and messed around with a failed OS (Windows Phone 7), They lost all their momentum to Samsung. They have only just got their winning ways back again with the One series.

Windows Phone 7 has been successful so far comparing it to the same early stages of its competitors’ life cycles.

‘Zenith’ looks amazing. I want to see what Nokia and Samsung comes up with. But in reality, I’ll probably get the flagship one that comes to market first from one of those manufactures.

Don’t count out ZTE. I think they’re going to release some of their best hardware ever and they’ll need to if they really want to carve out a piece of the market here.

The news for WP8 devices is not the spec sheet. The news will be the carrier, specifically what phones are coming to Verizon.

I would be surprised if we didn’t see at least one of these on Verizon, with it’s own exclusive name to make it seem like the Big Red has an exclusive “WP8” phone.

The last rumor has Nokia building a WP8 high end device for Verizon, no word if that’s a release device or specific specs though.

Man I hope it’s true. Where I live (SoCal), reception indoors at home is zero on AT&T so it pretty much means Verizon only for me.

You might try T-mobile, plenty of places in Denver where they beat AT&T.
