Which of the following smartphones would you prefer: the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, Samsung Galaxy S4 or the Moto X? And do you know how durable each of them is? The gadget insurance company SquareTrade Inc. decided to check that out in a durable test and see which phone is worth our money.
Apple and Samsung fans will be rather disappointed to find out that the Moto X was named the king of durability. After it was dropped at 5 feet, slid across the table, and even kept underwater for 10 seconds, the phone worked as though nothing had happened.
SquareTrade conducts smartphone durability tests early to check how the latter would work after toilet plunges, slides and water dunks. First of all, the company examines the materials handsets are made from, their front and rear panels, edge constructions, size, weight, water resistance; and only after that it subjects devices to smartphone durability tests using special robots that are dropping the phones from 5 feet high, slide devices across the table, and even dunks them into water for about 10 seconds. After all of these procedures are over, SquareTrade ranks devices as per breakability.
The same happened this year. Out of the huge variety of new releases, the company decided to choose the most-talked-of handsets and check how durable they are. After all four smartphones were tested, it turned out that the iPhone 5C didn’t pass the SquareTrade drop test and came with a cracked screen, the durability of the iPhone 5S was much better after the water dunk and came with a dented corner after the SquareTrade drop test, the Galaxy S4 durability was the weakest and failed both in the drop test and in water dunk. Unlike the previous three handsets, the Moto X came out with a minor dent on the corner only. Here is what the gadget insurance company representative says about the latest durability test:
“We were expecting that at least one of the new iPhone models would up its game but surprisingly, it was the Moto X that proved most forgiving of accidents. This is the first time we’ve tested the breakability on a Motorola phone, the only phone we’ve ever tested that’s made in the USA. We were pleased to find that it withstood our drop, slide and dunk test with only the slightest dent. It looks like Google is giving Apple and Samsung a run for their money.”
As a result, we have the following ranking: the Moto X comes first, the second is the iPhone 5S, then comes the iPhone 5C, and the Galaxy S4 ranks fourth.
