We all know that the Nexus 5 is the first device to launch with Android 4.4 KitKat on board. But what about the rest of Android gadgets? When will the latest Android update reach them?
According to LG, its flagship G2 will be updated to the latest Android OS in the coming weeks. The French operator SFR has shared that LG G2 Android 4.4 update will be released late November or in December. As you’ve already guessed, there is no exact date of when the update will start rolling out.
As per SFR, Android 4.4 update will arrive as an over-the-air (OTA) download, similar to its predecessors. Such information refers to the French owners of the LG G2, however we expect the rest of Europe to get Android 4.4 OTA update around that time as well.
Android 4.4 KitKat was first announced in September. Last week we had an opportunity to learn about the key Android 4.4 features at the official event. The software is designed to be installed on a wide range of Android devices, starting from low-end gadgets and ending with the latest releases. The OS will run even on smartphones coming with 512MB of RAM only.
“KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications,” said Google on its developer’s website.
Android 4.4 was designed to protect system memory of your phone/tablet from apps consuming big amounts of RAM. Android 4.4 KitKat will launch the services either in small groups or serially to avoid huge memory demands. In addition, Google has added the ability to print photos, documents and Web pages right from your smart device over Wi-Fi or Google Cloud Print as well as brings a number of new capabilities to NFC. For those of you who still don’t know what the latest Android 4.4 update will bring, we’ll remind that it will come with:
- New notification widgets
- Miracast updates
- Filmware availability to older phones
- New Gallery Visualisation
- Fragmentation changes (screen resizing)
- New API regarding animations
- Android default blue can be changed to other color schemes
